Foundation Updates: September 2024

As we move into October, we look back on a productive and inspiring September at The Black Feather Foundation. Throughout the month, we focused on connecting with communities, empowering youth and strengthening our mission to support displaced individuals.

Supporting Afghan Youth and Community Engagement

September was marked by active participation in events focused on Afghan communities, particularly youth engagement. One of the key highlights was the Afghan Youth Gathering in Washington, D.C. The gathering provided a platform for young Afghan voices to share their experiences, challenges and hopes for the future. Creating these safe spaces for open dialogue remains a cornerstone of our mission to foster empowerment and resilience in the communities we serve.

Additionally, we attended a webinar on Afghanistan Under the Taliban, which shed light on the current state of affairs in the country and the ongoing challenges faced by its people. These discussions are critical as we continue to refine our approach in supporting Afghan families and youth.

Empowering Women and Girls Through Art

Another significant achievement in September was Ashleigh’s first art workshop in Culpeper. The workshop welcomed young girls and women, including refugee mothers, who came together to express themselves through art. It was a beautiful demonstration of how creativity can serve as a healing and empowering tool, providing a safe space for individuals to connect, reflect and find solace. Ashleigh, who holds a degree in childhood education, is generously volunteering her time to lead these workshops. We encourage others to volunteer their time or talents as well—your contribution can help foster community spirit and empower more individuals through initiatives like this.

Expanding Our Focus: Raising Funds for Hurricane Helene Relief

As part of The Black Feather Foundation’s broader mission, we are dedicated not only to helping those displaced by war but also by natural disasters. In light of the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, we are now actively raising funds to assist those affected by this disaster. Thousands of individuals have been displaced from their homes due to severe flooding, and we are committed to providing aid and resources to support their recovery. Our relief efforts aim to offer a lifeline to those in need, ensuring they have the necessary assistance to rebuild their lives.

Main Sponsor of The September 2024 Hazara Event

Capping off the month, we were proud to be the main sponsor of the Hazara event on September 29, which drew over 2,000 attendees. This event was a powerful celebration of culture and community, bringing together people from all walks of life to stand in solidarity with the Afghan refugee community. Our sponsorship of this event is a testament to our ongoing commitment to supporting refugee communities and raising awareness about the challenges they face. The turnout and enthusiasm demonstrated the strength of unity and collective action, inspiring us as we move forward with our mission.

Looking Ahead

With September behind us, we remain energized by the connections we've made and the progress we've achieved. As we continue our work into the fall, The Black Feather Foundation is dedicated to making a meaningful impact. We invite our community of supporters to join us in these efforts, as every contribution helps to create lasting change for those in need.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue working toward our mission of empowering and uplifting displaced communities through education, health, sports and humanitarian relief.
