CHILDREN’S OPPORTUNITIES AFFORDED by COMBINING HEALTH, EDUCATION and SPORTS (COACHES)

The Black Feather Foundation’s newest initiative, COACHES, is focused on the acclimation of refugee children to their new communities.  The youngest of them are discovering a new country, a new language, new foods, new educational systems and an entirely new culture. COACHES provides a softer transition, encouraging children and families through participation in sports.

*Proven to be a critical component of productivity, children who are engaged in sports are less likely to be in trouble and more likely to be positive members of their communities.  According to the U.S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the benefits of youth sports provide not only physical health, but also, mental, social and educational success (Health.gov). This positive synergy of engagement for refugee children also engages families, bringing communities together through common desire to support children and their lifelong success.

EMIRATES HUMANITARIAN CITY, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.)

Evacuation and Resettlement Efforts

The Black Feather Foundation continues to be a pivotal leveraging arm in the refugee resettlement process. We are a member of the #AfghanEvac Coalition, and Moral Compass Federation, and work directly with the State Department Task Force in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., as well as the embassies and consulates of other countries, working diligently toward the safe resettlement of the Afghan refugee population. In coordinated efforts with Mercury One, we provide direct, non-government support for families in Emirates Humanitarian City, who are still in transition and awaiting approval for resettlement to the United States or other cooperating countries. Intimately aware of the complex process in applying for asylum, the foundation continues to aid those with valid cases and applications for legal Permanent Residence, Special Immigrant Visas and others.
